Having Eyes to See and Ears to Hear

Listen to what the Spirit says — a call to wakefulness, discernment, and steady courage.

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” — Revelation 2:29 (KJV)

There is a simple, ancient command wrapped in those few words: listen. Not with curiosity only, not with the half-attention we give to headlines and trending names, but with the quiet, obedient attention of a child who trusts his Father. The world will shout. Influencers, celebrities, pundits and the press will try to tell you what is real. But the Spirit speaks with a different authority — one that needs ears attuned and eyes open.

Wakefulness is not a trend — it’s a discipline

Too many awaken at noon. They discover truth as if it were a fashion and expect it to sustain them in the heat of battle. Scripture points the opposite way: God’s elect are early risers in spirit — up before the sun, ready, sober, and prayerful. The warnings in Revelation, the commands to watch and be ready, were never meant to be ornaments for comfortable times; they are training for the hour of testing.

“Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.” — Mark 13:33 (KJV)

Small armies, faithful hearts

The wars of Scripture seldom celebrate bulk and show. Many of God’s decisive victories came through a few faithful — a shepherd boy, a handful of brave men, a faithful remnant. David was not chosen for muscle alone but for faith. The lesson is plain: readiness, courage, and a discerning spirit matter more than mere numbers or the applause of the crowd.

Childlike obedience, not childish naivety

Christ called us to be like little children — not in ignorance, but in trust and obedience. Children listen to the father; they do not over-weigh every move with cynical speculation. They trust what they have learned from the voice that feeds and guides them.

“Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 18:3 (KJV)

Nakedness and shame — the Eden lesson

In Eden they were naked and unashamed; it was the lie of shame that made them clothe themselves and stumble into fear. Often the world tells us the same lie: that freedom and courage require the trappings of public approval, status, or safety in numbers. The Father’s way is simpler — a freedom born of truth and trust.

“And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.” — Genesis 2:25 (KJV)

The cost of complacency

There will come a time when those who follow darkness will press hard against the faithful. Persecution will not always be subtle; sometimes it is personal and savage. They will try to pull you down, and if you stand, they may come for what you hold most dear. Social platforms can become hunting grounds; popularity can become a target. This is not a call to fear — it is a call to train, to steady resolve, and to protect what God has given you.

Practical steps — how to grow ears that hear and eyes that see

  1. Daily Scripture & Quiet — Read with a prayerful heart. Turn the pages, not for a soundbite, but to learn the cadence of God’s voice.

  2. Discern in Community — Find a sober, tested fellowship that prizes truth over popularity. Iron sharpens iron.

  3. Practice Watchfulness — Set rhythms of prayer, fasting, and solitude so your spirit learns to recognize the Spirit’s voice.

  4. Train for Courage — Spiritual readiness includes honest training: study, accountability, and small acts of obedience that build courage for bigger tests.

  5. Protect Your Family & Witness — Be wise with public platforms. Steward your influence; don’t confuse numbers with safety.

  6. Remember the Small Army — Value faithfulness over fame. God’s victories often come through the few who trust Him.

A closing word of exhortation

This is not a time for slumber or shallow awakenings. The Scriptures warn, the Spirit calls, and the faithful must answer. Be awake. Learn the voice of the Father. Let the Spirit sharpen your sight and quicken your hearing so that when the hour comes you are not scrambling to get ready — you are standing, steady and obedient.

“He that hath an ear, let him hear.” — Revelation 2:29 (KJV)

Stand firm. Read, pray, and prepare. Be among those who never fell asleep to begin with.
